Olivia Taylor Dudley (born November 4, 1985) is an American actress best known for her work in horror films and for her role as Alice Quinn on the Syfy fantasy series The Magicians. She is also recognized for her early work with the internet sketch comedy group 5-Second Films.
Early Life
Olivia Taylor Dudley was born in Morro Bay, California, to Jim and Saundra Dudley. She moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to pursue acting and has remained active in the industry since her late teens.
Career
Dudley gained her first major film exposure in the 2012 horror-thriller Chernobyl Diaries, which introduced her to a wider audience and established her as a rising presence in the genre. She continued building her reputation in horror with roles in films such as Chillerama, The Barber, Dumbbells, Dude Bro Party Massacre III, and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension.
One of her most notable performances came in The Vatican Tapes, in which she played Angela Holmes, a young woman overtaken by demonic possession. Her performance drew particular praise for its intensity and physical commitment, marking her as a standout in a film heavily dependent on its lead actor’s ability to sell psychological and supernatural extremes.
On television, Dudley made guest appearances on series including CSI: Miami and Arrested Development. In 2015, she was cast as Alice Quinn in The Magicians, a role that would define much of her career. Portraying a brilliant, emotionally guarded magician, Dudley became a central figure on the series, which ran for multiple seasons and developed a dedicated fanbase. Her performance balanced intellectual sharpness with vulnerability and emotional volatility, helping ground the show’s darker, more introspective elements.
In 2016, Dudley guest-starred opposite David Duchovny in the second season of the crime drama Aquarius, further expanding her television résumé beyond genre work.
Alongside traditional film and television projects, Dudley was an early collaborator with 5-Second Films, a fast-paced sketch comedy collective that gained popularity online and helped her develop comedic timing and improvisational skills.
Personal Life
In September 2023, Dudley married cinematographer Elie Smolkin.
