Bobbie Benjamin stars as Mia.

Mia’s exterior exudes toughness, it is evident that the pain of losing Chloe cuts deeply into her core.

In their tight-knit group, Mia is the physical and emotional backbone, someone who faces adversity head-on. Her outburst against death, shouting obscenities into the void, reflects her unyielding spirit and raw grief. Unlike her friends, who display their sorrow through tears or silent contemplation, Mia copes through defiant acts of anger and resolution.

Mia embraces challenges with a fierce tenacity, often seen taking charge in difficult situations, as illustrated by her immediate readiness to investigate noises in the house later in the story. Her leadership isn’t born out of a desire for control but rather from a deep-seated need to protect her friends and maintain some semblance of order amidst the chaos.

The bond between Mia and Chloe is profound, characterized by shared moments of rebellion and camaraderie. Whether chain-smoking menthols together or navigating the social dynamics of their surroundings, Mia cherishes these memories, using them as fuel for her unspoken vow to seek justice for Chloe. This is evident when she boldly confronts the Grim Reaper, undeterred by fear, driven by a fierce loyalty to her deceased friend.

Mia’s relationship with her friends is multifaceted. She is empathetic towards Yasmin’s fragility, offering her support and urging her to face her fears. With Chelsea, Mia shares a bond forged in mutual understanding of the pain of loss, while her dynamic with Heather is more complex, often oscillating between camaraderie and friction. Despite the conflicts, Mia’s underlying motive is always the well-being of her group, even if it means making tough decisions or stepping into harm’s way.

As the night unfolds in the house, Mia’s bravery is continually tested. She faces supernatural threats with a blend of skepticism and courage, driven by a determination to uncover the truth and protect her friends. Her encounter with the Grim Reaper reveals a deeper layer of her character—her ability to confront unimaginable horrors while grappling with her own guilt and sorrow. Their showdown is a culmination of her journey through grief and anger. It is here Mia’s vulnerability is laid bare, her stoic facade cracking under the weight of the moment. Yet, even in her most fearful state, Mia’s resolve remains unshaken, showcasing the depth of her character—a young woman hardened by loss, yet softened by her undying love for her friend and her relentless quest for justice.

Benjamin portrays Mia powerfully with strength and sensitivity.  Her journey through grief, anger, and ultimately confrontation with death itself paints a vivid portrait of a young woman navigating the harsh realities of loss with a warrior’s spirit.
