Cliff Poche stars as the Grounds Keeper.
It is with a solemn heart that I write this as my brother passed away on June 30th, 2024. It was sudden, unexpected and a shock. More on all of this later as I’m still processing the grief.
The Grounds Keeper has an aura that matches the somber surroundings of the graveyard he tends. His presence is at once subtle and commanding, a blend of humility and authority that seems to emanate from his very being. His demeanor is calm and collected, with an air of ancient wisdom that suggests he has witnessed countless lives and deaths over the years.
When he speaks, his voice is calm and steady, carrying a gravitas that compels others to listen. He chooses his words carefully, often speaking in a manner that is cryptic but laden with meaning, leaving those who hear him pondering his true intentions and the wisdom behind his advice.
The appearance is brief but multi-faceted. On the surface, the Grounds Keeper is a caretaker of the graveyard, tending to the physical upkeep of the grounds and ensuring that the dead are treated with respect. However, it soon becomes clear that his duties extend far beyond the mundane. He possesses a deep, almost mystical understanding of death and the afterlife, acting as a guardian of the boundary between the living and the dead. His warnings to the girls are not mere superstition but born of a profound knowledge of the forces they are unwittingly challenging.
Despite his stern warnings and the seriousness of his words, there is a gentleness to the Grounds Keeper that hints at a compassionate heart. He does not seek to frighten or control but to protect and guide. His interactions with the girls are marked by a sense of duty and concern, as he tries to steer them away from a path that he knows can only lead to pain and suffering.
Cliff is able to give hints that he has experienced loss and sorrow, and that his connection to the graveyard is deeply personal. This adds a layer of depth to his character, suggesting that his role as a guardian is not just a job but a calling, perhaps even a penance.
