Early Life
Haylie Duff was born in Houston, Texas, the elder daughter of Susan Colleen Duff and Robert Erhard “Bob” Duff. Her mother later became a film producer and managed Hilary Duff’s career, while her father remained in Houston overseeing the family’s convenience store business. Raised primarily in Texas, Duff developed an early interest in performing arts through dance, particularly ballet. By age eight, she was already performing professionally, appearing in the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company’s production of The Nutcracker Suite.
Acting Career
Duff’s early career included guest appearances in made-for-television films and series such as True Women and The Amanda Show. She went on to appear in shows including Chicago Hope, Boston Public, and Third Watch. In 2002, she gained wider recognition as Amy Sanders on Lizzie McGuire, becoming a familiar presence during the series’ later seasons.
In 2004, Duff made her feature film debut as Summer Wheatly in Napoleon Dynamite, a role that earned her a Teen Choice Award and introduced her to a broader audience. That same year, she guest-starred on That’s So Raven and continued appearing in series such as Joan of Arcadia and American Dreams. She also provided voice work for the animated holiday film In Search of Santa, which featured her sister Hilary.
In 2005, Duff joined the cast of 7th Heaven, portraying Sandy Jameson, a recurring character whose storyline became increasingly central to the series. The following year, she made her Broadway debut in Hairspray, playing Amber Von Tussle from June through October 2006.
Duff later co-starred with her sister in Material Girls, for which she also received a co-producer credit. Afterward, she appeared in a number of television movies and direct-to-DVD releases, including Nightmare, My Sexiest Year, Legacy, Backwoods, Love Takes Wing, Love Finds a Home, and My Nanny’s Secret. Between 2008 and 2015, she continued working steadily in film and television, with roles in Fear Island, Tug, and Slightly Single in L.A.
Duff also hosted and executive-produced the reality competition series Legally Blonde: The Musical – The Search for Elle Woods, which documented the casting process for the Broadway production. In 2015, she appeared in the film Badge of Honor.
Music
Duff has recorded numerous songs, many of which appeared on film soundtracks and Disney compilation albums. She frequently collaborated with her sister, contributing vocals to projects associated with The Lizzie McGuire Movie, A Cinderella Story, Material Girls, and In Search of Santa. She also sang on the soundtrack for Stuck in the Suburbs and recorded a duet with Seth MacFarlane for a Family Guy album.
Beyond performing, Duff contributed as a songwriter to Hilary Duff’s first two studio albums and provided whistling vocals on the song “Sparks.” She was briefly signed to Hollywood Records and recorded material for a planned solo album titled Walk the Walk, though the project was ultimately shelved and never released.
Other Ventures
In 2012, Duff launched a lifestyle and food blog titled The Real Girl’s Kitchen. The blog’s success led to a Cooking Channel television series of the same name in 2014. She later published a companion cookbook and continued expanding her brand into lifestyle content. In 2017, Duff introduced a children’s fashion line called Little Moon Society.
Personal Life
Duff has described herself as spiritual rather than strictly religious, noting that while she identifies as Christian, her beliefs are personal and nontraditional. In 2014, she became engaged to Matt Rosenberg. The couple has two daughters together.
